Lancaster London hotel hosts first London Honey Show

1st July 2011, 8:12am

The Lancaster London hotel is introducing the first ever “London Honey Show” on Monday, 10 October 2011.

The event will be held in the newly refurbished Westbourne Suite, from 6-9pm, and will be free to enter.  Bee keeping enthusiasts and honey lovers from across London are expected to attend.

The coveted title of "London Beekeeper of the Year" will also be announced during the evening with the winner receiving a well deserved trophy.  There will also be awards presented for the following categories:

• Best Home Honey (hives kept on balconies or in private gardens)
• Best Rooftop Honey
• Best School Honey
• Best Honey from First Year Beekeeper
• Best Packaging
• Best All Rounder
• Best Colour
• North London vs South London Honey.

The competition is open to all, from hobby beekeepers to commercial operators and participants can upload their nominations via the web.

The event will also be featuring a host of other bee related activities.  A variety of stalls will provide informational leaflets, equipment and demonstrations, as well as a display of hives with an "observation" Perspex hive.  Experts will be giving talks about the current state of the declining bee population, plus tips on how to maintain a healthy hive.

A raffle, with prizes donated by the Lancaster London and other bee equipment suppliers, will be drawn at the end of the night, with all proceeds going towards a bee charity.  Honey cocktails will also be available at the cash bar.

The event is being held in association with The London Bee Keepers Association and strong links with the London Honey Festival have also been forged.
