La Tomatina food fight festival has become something of a cult festival in Spain. Held on the last Wednesday of August every year in the town of Buñol in the Valencia region of Spain, thousands of people come from all over the world to fight in a battle, in which more than one hundred metric tons of overripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets.
But no need to worry, La Tasca won't be pelting its customers with tomatoes. Instead it will be introducing new tomato-based dishes especially for the bank holiday weekend, 26th – 30th August.
Dishes such as a special tomato paella, Pollo a la Catalana (chicken breast with chorizo, peppers and paprika in a rich tomato sauce) and a delicious fresh cherry tomato, chorizo and spinach salad. In addition a new Bloody Mary recipe will be introduced.
La Tasca restaurants throughout the UK will be hosting their own Tomatina-inspired fiesta with Spanish music, flamenco dancing and huge paellas cooked in the middle of the restaurant.
Joanne Cox, brand manager for La Tasca said: "Tomatina is Spain's biggest and most popular festival. We wanted to celebrate it so decided to host a fiesta especially for it. Each restaurant is planning its own unique party over the bank holiday."
