LONDON BREWER’S YAKIMA RED BOASTS ‘AMERICAN GEMS’

22nd February 2012, 11:39am

Meantime, the Greenwich-based craft brewer, has launched its latest limited edition seasonal beer Yakima Red to be stocked by a select group of London pubs from mid-March.

"This new 'hoppy' brew has been created to show off the depth and richness of the US aroma hops grown in the Yakima Valley, Washington State, paired with the medium body and flavour of British and German malt," said brewing head Steve Schmitt, an American.

"Twenty years ago I fell in love with the unique flowery and fruity aromas of the US hop varieties. Now, supported by the Meantime team, I felt it was the right time to brew a beer to show off these North American gems.

'We have told the licensees selling Yakima Red that it would be a wonderful match for veal, crispy roast pork, ham hock terrine or charcuterie.

Brewmaster Alastair said: "Yakima Red is a great example of our mission to offer the trade diversity by creating a range of beers for a variety of drinking occasions and consumers.

"We believe that this approach will help us all change the way the public views beer as a category and that there is a huge sales opportunity in creating a more sophisticated beer drinker who is better-educated and willing to pay more for quality pump ales."

* Richard Myers, former brand manager at Miller Brands UK, the new director of marketing at Meantime, has 10 years drinks industry marketing experience, starting his career in trade marketing and sales for Jack Daniels at Bacardi Brown Forman.
The Greenwich brewing company, preparing to "grow substantially" in the UK appointed Nick Miller as CEO last July. He was formerly MD of Miller Brands.
