During World Hunger Relief Week, KFC employees will be taking part in events including parachute jumps, football matches, car washes, golf days, mountain climbing, chest waxing, face painting, cake sales, raffles and tombolas.
World Hunger Relief Week aims to raise funds and increase awareness of hunger and the global food crisis as an issue. Customers will be invited to visit their local restaurant to make a small donation for sponsorship, raffle tickets or cake sales.
Last year's campaign raised an average of more than £500 per store which helped provide life-saving food to more than 2.5 million people in 27 countries. This year, as well as a substantial donation from KFC itself, over 20,000 KFC employees across the country will be involved in fundraising activities, and with the help of its customers, KFC hopes to do even better.
Martin Shuker, CEO of KFC UK, said: "This is our third year working with the World Food Programme, and we're hoping to raise even more money this time around. Everybody from restaurant staff through to our directors are right behind this fantastic cause, and we're looking forward to welcoming the local community to join in with our fundraising efforts."
WFP is the world's largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger worldwide. WFP is currently facing critical funding shortfalls which means it is being forced to reduce and in some cases cut food rations to the world's hungry, making the World Hunger Relief campaign even more crucial this year.
Josette Sheeran, executive director of the World Food Programme, said: "WFP knows how to reach those most in need and will do what it takes to get a cup of food to any child in the world. But without funding, we can't reach these children. It takes just 15p to fill a cup with food. The World Hunger Relief campaign helps fill the cup for tens of thousands of kids – and we're so grateful for it."
KFC's partnership with the World Food Programme began in 2007 and has raised a remarkable £21 million in its first two years.
In the UK alone, KFC raised more than £365,000 last year, beating 2007's total of £360,000.
