JD Wetherspoon purchases five pubs from Punch Taverns

16th November 2009, 10:26am

National pub chain, JD Wetherspoon has secured a deal with Punch Taverns which sees five pubs sold to the value-for-money pubco.

The five pubs are:

The Aunt Sally (Sheffield)
The Childwall Fiveways Hotel (Liverpool)
The Berkshire Tavern (Newbury, Berkshire)
The Red Lion (Petersfield, Hampshire)
The Black Horse (Northfield, Birmingham)

All five pubs are set to reopen as Wetherspoon outlets in January 2010 following a £4 million refurbishment programme.

The existing names of the pub will remain and all staff associated with the pubs will be offered jobs with Wetherspoon.

Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said: "We are pleased to have purchased the pubs from Punch and believe that they will be a great addition to our existing outlets."

The purchase price has not been disclosed.
