JD Wetherspoon has best pub loos across the UK

7th December 2009, 9:48am

JD wetherspoon has won The Loo of the Year awards 2009 in the pubs and wine bars category in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In addition Wetherspoon won the UK Trophy in the Corporate Provider category and was named in the 2009 Champions League – Standards of Excellence Awards.

This is presented to any organisation, who, in the opinion of the inspectors, are maintaining a consistently high standard of management in all their Loo of the Year Awards entries.

The other four pubs that won the individual titles were Goodman's Field (City of London), The Earl of Zetland (Grangemouth, Scotland), The John Capel Hanbury (Pontypool, Wales) and The Diamond, (Derry, Northern Ireland).

A total of 144 Wetherspoon pubs were entered into the awards and they were each inspected anonymously in order to check the standards of their toilet provision.

The judges marked from zero to a maximum five stars; 104 Wetherspoon pubs received the maximum five stars and 40 received four stars.

Wetherspoon head of property and acquisitions, Jon Randall, said: "We are thrilled to have won so many plaudits in the Loo of the Year Awards 2009.

"Our staff maintain their pub toilets to the highest standards at all times and this is reflected in the judges inspections. We will continue to provide our customers with the best loos at all times."

The pub chain also won the accolade in 2008.
