Investigation underway after unexplained fire breaks out at Burger King

9th July 2010, 2:41pm

Train services have returned to normal but an investigation into the cause of the blaze at Liverpool Street Station's branch of Burger King is in force.

A BBC news report has told how London Liverpool Street station has reopened after being closed due to the fire, which broke out in the Liverpool Street station branch of Burger King on Thursday night.

The station was closed down until Friday morning after the fire erupted after 2200 BST.

All train services came to a standstill and around 1, 000 people were evacuated from the main terminal and a further 1, 000 people from the tube station.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said 40 firefighters tackled the fire, which is said to have taken more than three hours to get under control. A spokesman for the LFB said: "It looks like a kitchen ventilation shaft in one of the restaurant units inside the station (was) alight."

A City of London Police spokesman said roads in the surrounding area of Bishopsgate were closed from Great Eastern Street in the north to Wormwood Street in the south while emergency services dealt with the incident.
