Originally founded by Andrew Czezowski and Susan Carrington, The Fridge nightclub initially started in 1981 in a small club at 390 Brixton Lane. In 1985, as a result of increased popularity, the club moved to its current location; a converted 1913 cinema (The Palladium Picture House) on the Town Hall Parade.
The nightclub, which currently has a capacity for up to 1,700 people split across two main rooms, was at the heart of the early 1980s New Romantic movement, featuring such artists as Eurythmics and the Pet Shop Boys before they were well known. It also claims to have been the first British club to feature such innovations as video screens and a chill out lounge.
Since then The Fridge, which is London's largest independently owned nightclub and one of its longest running, has hosted a variety of club nights, including Love Muscle — one of the major gay club nights in the capital — plus live music events.
Barry Fitzgerald from Christie + Co's London Bars and Restaurants team, said: "We expect the opportunity to acquire this iconic venue, one of the capital's most successful nightclubs, to generate a significant amount of interest."
