Hoteliers get Green Source to guide them

15th January 2008, 12:19pm

In recent years many manufacturers and suppliers have been recognising both the need for, and the profit potential of, designing goods with greener features for the hotel industry.

But with a plethora of equipment and goods now being labelled up to use and abuse green-linked purchasing, how do hoteliers know if the features on offer are gadget or green?

For the first time ever, hotel owners, managers and their purchasing departments throughout the land now have access to a newly produced Purchasing Guide, "The Green Source", compiled by The Considerate Hoteliers Association, in partnership with the London Development Agency.

Available from 21st January 2008 as a FREE downloadable file from the Considerate Hoteliers website, The Green Source offers comprehensive advice for hoteliers wishing to purchase products and services which will genuinely offer benefits to their businesses, both in terms of efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Whether food and beverage, equipment or even the basic nuts and bolts of maintenance, the Green Source advises hoteliers how to select products and services which will help to reduce their impact on the environment.

Hetty Bright, Marketing Services Manager, 51 Buckingham Gate and Crowne Plaza London St James' explained how they'll be using the guide: "We will use The Green Source as a reference point and a marketing tool, spreading the messages of our environmental policy to guests, associates and partners, and helping our hotel to gain competitive advantage."

Hetty added: "The guidance will help us to identify innovative and environmentally responsible products from young companies who operate with sustainable development principles as a key business driver. The Green Source will inspire us and we are honoured to have been part of the process of developing it."

The Considerate Hoteliers Association, run by hoteliers, offers an information source on all green issues which specifically relate to this fast-moving sector.

With a nationally recognised annual Award scheme, a membership which includes many of the industry's flagship hotels and now The Green Source Purchasing Guide, hoteliers are able to keep abreast of current environmental issues and obtain ongoing hints and tips as to how to improve the efficiency of their business.
