Head chef to set new World Record at Wigan Food and Drink Festival

20th January 2010, 8:59am

A head chef is hoping to set a new World Record as part of this year's Wigan Food and Drink Festival.

Faisal Ali Choudhury will be cooking up a batch of fish curry at The Royal Saffron, Lowton, with a huge Tigerfish as part of the food festival celebrations in March.

The 39-year-old is already a Guinness World Record holder in the kitchen. In 2000 he produced a 131 pound onion bhaji – the record was later beaten in 2004.

In addition, dinner with Antony Worrall Thompson will take place on Wednesday 10 March and Wines of the World with Jilly Goolden takes place on the Friday night of 12 March.

Habib Monaf, owner and director of The Royal Saffron, said: "There is currently no record in place for the world's largest fish based curry. So we are all set to take our place in the record books. Having said that, we will be trying to make a dish that will take some beating."

Keith Bergman, the Tourism Development Manager for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust and Festival Organiser, added: "We have 20 events to suit each and every palate. Although the festival has a short history, the 2010 events programme is our strongest to date."

The festival will finish with a gourmet Indian banquet and live Asian music and dance at The Baby Elephant restaurant.

The Wigan Food and Drink Festival sponsored by Hitchen Foods, runs from 4 – 14 March. Wigan's third festival launches with Gusto D'Italia at Rigaletto's Italian Restaurant – a special romantic candlelit evening with specially created festival menu.
