In The Guide's Top 40, which names the crème de la crème of the UK restaurant scene, Pétrus has climbed from seventh to third, while Maze is up a staggering 19 places to number 15.
Chef Marcus Wareing has driven Pétrus up four places, just behind his old boss Gordon Ramsay, whose Chelsea restaurant remains in second place.
Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck is still number one, with a stunning ten out of ten this year.
While chef Jason Atherton at Maze will surely be contending for a top-ten place in the near future if he continues to develop at such a pace.
There are eleven London restaurants in total in the Top 40. The others are: The Square, Mayfair (5th); Le Gavroche, Mayfair (7th); Pied à Terre, Fitzrovia (10th); Tom Aikens, Chelsea (12th); The Capital, Knightsbridge (16th); Hibiscus, Mayfair (18th); The Greenhouse, Green Park (36th); and Club Gascon, City (37th).
Just missing out on a Top 40 place is Marcus Eaves at L'Autre Pied, Marylebone, who won the Editors' Award for Up-and-Coming Chef and could also be destined for greatness.
