Gondola Holdings acquires former Mela restaurant site

26th May 2010, 11:34am

Christie + Co has sold the leasehold interest of the former Mela restaurant & takeaway in Herne Hill, London, to Gondola Holdings, owner of the PizzaExpress casual dining chain, for an undisclosed sum.

Situated a short distance from Dulwich Village in an affluent residential area, the 3,178sq ft restaurant is split between a 65-cover restaurant and bar on the ground floor and a 35-cover basement area.

Gondola Holdings plans to refurbish the closed unit and reopen it under its PizzaExpress brand.

Simon Chaplin, director at Christie + Co, said: "This prominently-located restaurant, which has a successful trading history, attracted a number of interested parties. We are delighted to have secured an established national operator such as Gondola Holdings for this site."
