Giraffe launches first restaurant in Scotland

16th September 2010, 9:59am

Restaurant group Giraffe has opened its first venture in Scotland.

To kick start the day breakfast dishes include organic porridge topped with honey, sunflower seeds, strawberries and bananas; or a granola breakfast sundae with fresh fruit.

Or diners can opt for huevos rancheros – free range fried or scrambled eggs, chorizo, black beans, cheddar, adobe sauce, avocado and tomato salsa on a warm tortilla; or classic scrambled egg and smoked salmon.

And for those looking for the full works can choose from the Full Brunch Plate with bacon, Cumberland sausage, free range fried or scrambled eggs, Heinz baked beans, crispy potato wedges and toast as well as the added option of traditional Scottish black pudding from Stuart Grants.

For lunch or dinner guests can tuck into a combination of nibbles, snacks, starters and mains. Highlights include crunchy Japanese tiger prawns with sweet chilli and lime dipping sauce; farmers' market vegetable burrito – filled with roasted squash, feta, spinach, mushrooms, kidney beans and Mexican green rice; or 100% classic burger beef burger with skin-on fries and in an artisan bun.

Desserts include milky bubble double chocolate cheesecake with warm chocolate sauce; banana waffle split with roasted banana, vanilla ice cream and chocolate and butterscotch sauce; and classic Rocky Road ice cream sundae.

Just like the menu, the wine list is international with every bottle available by the glass. Cocktails include a retro piña colada and more contemporary innovations including vanilla breeze – vanilla vodka, Bombay Sapphire gin, passion fruit and pineapple.

The interior design, by Wells Mackereth, features natural earthy and olive tones. The restaurant area features bright and colourful murals as well as graphics featuring slogans such as 'love eat live', the calling card phrase of giraffe restaurants throughout the UK, alongside 'feel good food + music.

Owner Russel Joffe said: "We are delighted to be making our Scottish debut in Aberdeen and look forward to becoming part of the Union Square local community."
