The contest, now heading into its fourth year, is the brainchild of chef patron Chris Galvin and general manager Fred Sirieix at Galvin at Windows.
They felt it was time that bar staff, like chefs, received recognition for their hard work and creativity, and introduced a competition to identify talent within the bar industry.
The competition is open to both students and professionals and is an opportunity for them to showcase their skills in front of a panel of judges including industry leaders such as Robbie Bargh of the Gorgeous Group, Silvano Giraldin, formerly of Le Gavroche and Luca Cordiglieri, Vice President of the United Kingdom Bartenders Guild.
Students will compete in the morning, followed by the professionals in the afternoon. They will be required to deliver the classic Rob Roy, but the second drink is up to each contestant offering a real opportunity to demonstrate their originality and flair.
Contestants are judged on their mixing skills, confidence and appearance with prizes that include the coveted Galvin Cup itself, a cash prize and a stay at the Glenmorangie Distillery.
This year's event will be held on 8th June at Westminster Kingsway College. For more information and to enter, visit www.thegalvincup.com.
