Gales Seafarers Ale was launched into Fuller's permanent cask range in April, with a donation of £3 per barrel sold being made to Seafarers UK, one of the UK's maritime charities.
Seafarers staff were invited to the Griffin Brewery to receive a cheque for £3,000 and were pleasantly surprised when Fuller's announced it would be upping its contribution to £5 per barrel.
Commodore Barry Bryant, director general at Seafarers UK, said: "It was a great pleasure to be invited to the Griffin Brewery to receive the cheque to mark the sale of the first 1,000 barrels of Seafarers Ale.
"£3,000 would have gone a long way to helping seafarers and their families in need, so Fuller's decision to increase their donation per barrel, making the cheque £5,000 instead, was a fantastic, and very welcome, surprise. We are overjoyed at how Fuller's and their customers have really got behind this beer and we look forward to celebrating the next milestone in the near future."
