French restaurant starts Saturday lunch for first time in 50 years

11th March 2010, 3:01pm

Mon Plaisir, situated along Monmouth Street in London, has announced that for the first time in 50 years it will be opening for a lunch service on Saturdays.

The eatery is thought to be London's oldest French restaurant and owner Alain Lhermitte explained the reasons behind the decision.

"It is something I have been considering for some time. What really compelled me to do it was walking past the restaurant on a Saturday and seeing people trying to open the door and finding it locked".

The restaurant comprises four atmospheric dining areas filled with memorabilia from the past, including the famous bar that once graced a Lyon brothel.
