Food safety made easier

25th August 2009, 3:28pm

The European Safety Bureau has launched a Relay Online Support Service for Food Safety and Health & Safety.

Many companies have numerous business sites throughout the country. They are often faced with the challenge of quickly relaying key food safety and health & safety information to their employees.

Relay has two main aims: to provide an easy method of communicating key issues and information clearly, speedily and effectively to all personnel, wherever they are; and to provide a cost-effective technical advice, support and training resource.

The services it offers include:

•     Online management information systems so businesses can monitor, say, Food Safety and Heath & Safety audit reports and statistics

•    A downloadable library of key internal reports such as control documentation and policy documents

•    A 24/7 telephone helpline manned by highly experienced professionals

•    Web-based training pods – short, refresher training videos to reinforce industry 'best practice'

•    Training certificates for managers to download when a staff member successfully completes a training pod

•    SafetyBites – fortnightly hints, tips & advice to give catering and operations managers a regular focus for staff training sessions

•    Staff training handouts for managers to distribute to their staff

•    An online accident reporting system to provide all sites with a clear, consistent process for collating vital accident information. This can help to ensure that all legal responsibilities relating to accident reporting under RIDDOR are satisfied.

Chief executive of The European Safety Bureau, Derek Gardner, explained: "In an increasingly litigious world, it is more important than ever for companies to protect their  customers, their employees and their businesses.

"It is, therefore, vital that all staff are kept fully up-to-speed with key legislative changes, industry issues and food safety 'warnings' and, perhaps more importantly, their implications for front-line operations.  Ongoing staff training and clear management systems are other key elements in an effective Food Safety and Health & Safety strategy.  RELAY can help with all of these.

"All of The European Safety Bureau's clients have the option to benefit from the added-value support services provided by RELAY.  We believe that no other Food Safety and Health & Safety Consultancy is offering such a cost-effective and comprehensive, tailor-made, online support system & training resource.

"The Bureau continually strives to extend and improve our range of client services and RELAY is just one more example of this."
