Five new industry legends make into restaurant manager hall of fame

20th May 2010, 5:31pm

Five of the industry's most well-known restaurant managers have made it into the Hall of Fame, compiled by the Academy of Food & Wine Service.

They join last year's entrants to make up the impressive list of ten:

2009
Elena Salvoni - Elena's L'Etoile
Jesus Adornu - Le Caprice
Diego Masciago - Waterside Inn
Silvano Giraldin - Le Gavroche
David Morgan-Hewitt - The Goring Hotel

2010
Alain Desenclos - Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons
Craig Bancroft - Northcote
Didier Garnier - Le Colombier
Jean-Claude Breton - Restaurant Gordon Ramsay/Royal Hospital Road
Sergio Rebecchi - Chez Nico Restaurants

Last year's Restaurant Manager of the Year, Peter Avis, was made an honorary member of the Hall of Fame in light of his work over the last 12 months to raise the profile of front of house.

Speaking about the awards Raymond Blanc said: "I cannot think of a better general than "Monsieur" Alain to receive this award. He was there with me during the early years helping me to build the ethos, the culture, the heart of Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. Alain has trained hundreds of young people. Relentlessly he has past on and shared his knowledge. It is wonderful and appropriate that his work is recognised by his piers in our industry."

Craig Bancroft added that he was delighted to have been chosen: "It's clearly a wonderful honour to join the much coveted Hall of Fame, and I am thrilled to have received the invitation. My restaurant, Northcote, which I own and run with Chef Nigel Haworth, is as exciting a project for me now as it ever has been. We are refurbishing the restaurant this summer and I look forward to a fantastic relaunch later in the year."
