FSA conducts food allergy research

23rd September 2008, 10:15am

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) will be conducting an investigation into how external factors might impact on the reactions of people allergic to different foods.

The Agency plans to hold an open meeting on 26 November in Cambridge to talk to potential researchers.

At the open meeting there will be background information and guidance on what the Agency needs from this research, and will be viewed as an opportunity for potential contractors to discuss suitable experimental approaches.

Focusing on the affect of factors such as alcohol, exercise or asthma on food allergies, the research will work as part of the Agency's aim to determine levels of allergens in food that don't pose a risk to health.

The information will eventually be used to improve labelling and allergen control practices used by the industry and risk managers. It also hopes to improve the Agency's advice to consumers who suffer from food allergies.

For those interested in attending the meeting can contact Ruth Hodgson on 020 7276 8536 before 8 October.
