Enotria launches wine course for front of house and bar staff

24th September 2010, 10:43am

Specialist wine importer and distributor Enotria has launched a training programme about wine for front of house and bar staff - saying the training could have a "profound effect" on sales.

Enotria used their 35 years of wine merchant experience to create and develop the course in-house which is aimed at front of house and bar staff working in casual dining and pub venues, with little or no knowledge of wine.

It is designed on simple principles that aim to build confidence and understanding about wine and provide staff with the knowledge to improve their wine customer service and become proactive wine salespeople.

Each programme is tailord to the establishment's own wine list and is based on Enotria's own research into customers' expectations of wine service.

Sheila King, brand manager, Mitchells & Butlers, Village Pub & Kitchen has praised the programme saying: "We already enjoy a strong relationship with Enotria and were delighted to play a part in the development of the programme.

"We feel it provides our staff with the skills and knowledge to serve wine with confidence to our customers. We particularly liked the focus on ensuring the customer experience is enjoyable and the fact that it is tailored to our own wine list."

John Grieveson, marketing director at Enotria added: "Wine is a significant part of an outlet's revenue and very often gets limited focus. Staff training can have a profound impact on wine sales; however, just like the wine itself, we believe that all too often it too receives insufficient focus. We have identified that good customer service comes from attitude and skill.

"Our belief is that we should be 'upgrading' our customers' wine experience, by providing them with more support and advice when choosing wine."
