Drake & Morgan bring “Secret Garden” to London with launch of botanical-themed bar

20th July 2010, 10:01am

Excitement is mounting for the privately-owned bar group Drake & Morgan as it anticipates the October launch of its fourth site, The Folly, at 41 Gracechurch Street.

Drake & Morgan's latest venue, which was designed by Fusion Design and Architecture Ltd, is being dubbed by the company as "London's secret garden" that promises to bring "a botanical feel to the urban space".

The venue will feature carefully divided areas that are designed to create the most flexible use of space along with floor-to-ceiling glass windows to encourage lots of light into the space.

Guests will enter the venue via the garden lounge which is filled with trees and hanging chairs designed to create an interior terrace.
Among its features are a large kitchen, deli, bar and private dining room plus a deli and flower shop.

There is a second private dining room and an evolving pop up shop and private vaults on the subterranean level along with a bar.
Other features include long timber benches, high tables and a chef's table for fourteen guests. An 8m vertical tree trunk has been installed to provide a focal point that joins the basement and ground floor.

Local suppliers and seasonal produce are emphasised on the food menu with the drinks offer including premium spirits, beers and cocktails and an "eclectic" wine list with many varieties available by the glass. Dishes include breakfast, brunch and sharing plates as well as gourmet sandwiches and burgers.

Managing director for Drake & Morgan, Jillian MacLean, said: "Since the successful launch of the refinery at Bankside, the parlour at Canary Wharf and The Anthologist on Gresham Street, we are thrilled to be opening a further site in the City."
