Tapas Revolution

DesignLSM completes three new restaurant projects

6th December 2010, 3:18pm

Three new restaurants in London have just opened its doors to the public after undergoing a refit by designLSM. We find out more about each project.

Tapas Revolution - Tapas Revolution is located on the Mezzanine Level of London's largest shopping Centre Westfield. The design brief from the client Omar Allibhoy was to create a traditional tapas bar which would display authentic Spanish produce. The structure would need to be large enough to cope with a large volume of shoppers and fast turnover.

The bar consists of two 20 metre pewter counters with a timber frontage. High stools under the counter offer a "relaxed" dining experience and suspended pendant lights provide a feeling of "intimacy". The biggest challenge was designing a counter large enough to accommodate approx 43 covers with limited space without feeling restricted. Westfield has been consulted throughout the project.

The Hoops (Henry Moore Foundation) - The Hoops is a small pub belonging to the Henry Moore Foundation - a registered charity founded by the artist. The client requested that the interior was modernised to reflect the "sophistication" that Moore and his wife Irina brought to their house and estate at Perry Green.

The aim was to maintain the pubs rural and charm. Strong yet subtle references to Moore include his own textile designs Treble Clef and Safety Pins and Heads which date back to 1946.  Original features such as exposed oak beams and a huge fireplace have been preserved. Natural materials have been used including reclaimed long bench seats in vibrant green and a new slate coloured floor.

Eighty-Six Bar and Restaurant - The brief from the client was to create a venue that appealed to its local Fulham and Chelsea residents for different occasions. More space was created for the front of house section by removing the existing large island bar and relocating it to the left hand side of the room.

The ground floor has long charcoal velvet chesterfields with a backdrop of black lacquered random sized panels and a finished mirror polished steel bar as a centrepiece. And floors are a mixture of dark woods, mosaics, and a central featured inset rug. The mezzanine level has a more informal feel with a backdrop of gold panels cladding the walls. The venture opened on Friday 19th November.
