Denny's Uniforms staff battle the elements for charity boat race

29th September 2010, 10:26am

A crew of eight brave employees of the chefswear supplier Denny's Uniforms along with family and friends, the Scimshankers, took part in The Great River Race Championships recently - raising nearly £2,000 for charity.

Denny's Uniforms are described as the leading chefswear and front of house supplier to the hospitality industry.

The boat race, which covers 21 miles of London's River Thames, saw a "record number" get involved this year with 1,000 rowers and 340 boats from around the world all featuring in the race which has been described as both a "grueling battle" and a "mix of fun and intense competition".

The race was undertaken in support of Home-Start Guildford, an organisation that provides parents who are struggling to cope with practical and emotional support.

Denny's Uniforms managing director and team caption Nick Jubert said: "What a day! We kept our heads down and our Denny's chefs hats on, and managed to overtake at least 145 other boats during the course of the race.

"We managed a very respectable finishing time of three hours eight minutes and 20 seconds coming 205th out of 340. We have raised nearly £2,000 for Home-Start Guildford."
