Costa launches Flat White coffee in stores nationwide

29th January 2010, 8:09am

Costa has added a new 'Flat White' coffee to its range.

The Flat White is a rich, creamy full-flavoured coffee with a velvety texture, made from the purest extract of the coffee bean.

The launch of the coffee comes after more than 12 months of research, development and training of over 6,000 of Costa's baristas at a total investment of over £1 million.

The drink is already a coffee shop favourite in Australia and New Zealand where it is believed to have originated.  In the UK, authentic Flat Whites have been served in speciality cafés, mostly in London, but Costa is the first chain to serve them across the whole country.

John Derkach, Costa's managing director, commented: "Our intention with Flat White is to deliver the next 'big thing' for coffee lovers.  We are offering a premium, great tasting and authentic product that's not available at other coffee shop chains in the UK. Our unrivalled coffee expertise and highly skilled, talented baristas make us unique in our ability to offer an authentic Flat White"

"Costa's sales have been strong this year and the introduction of the Flat White is an important innovation to keep us ahead of the competition and to continue to drive growth."

Bought a Costa "flat white" today. It is NOT a "flat white". You do not serve a Flattie in a 12oz cup. You serve it in a 6 or 8oz maximum with a double espresso!!

I tried my first 'flat white' at Costa today, it was absolutely disgusting. I had to ask if there was actually any coffee in it at all. I think a triple espresso is the basic ingredient.
