Contract caterer Sodexo secures another Red Tractor accreditation

22nd June 2010, 8:00am

Contract caterer Sodexo has announced that it has become the first company in its sector to acquire the first frozen vegetables from Red Tractor accredited growers.

This means that all of the company's sites are now able to acquire peas that have been prepared, frozen and packed at UK production facilities.

Via PinguinLutosa UK, its supplier, Sodexo is now providing frozen vegetables such as petit pois, and garden peas that are 100% sourced from British farms, and have travelled a maximum of 45 miles from the farm to factory - reducing food miles in the process.

The Red Tractor logo will now be featuring prominently on all of the frozen pea products and ranges. This will be expanded in the Autumn to include other frozen vegetables such as carrots.

Sodexo has already secured a raft of Red Tractor accreditations. These include becoming the first company in its sector to secure Red Tractor accreditation across multiple sites in 2009, the first company in all sectors to be named as a corporate member of the scheme and the first company in the sector to procure all of its meat from Red Tractor accredited sources.

Steve Jobson, buying director, Sodexo UK and Ireland, said: "We are delighted to be able to add frozen vegetables to our large portfolio of Red Tractor accredited products.

"Items such as British peas have a unique reputation for great taste due to our perfect growing conditions here in the UK, and we are pleased that we are not only procuring food that is of the highest standards in terms of taste, but that we are able to continue to develop our already extensive support of British produce."
