Compass Group delighted with its two Springboard awards

30th November 2009, 12:53pm

Compass Group UK & Ireland has been celebrating after being the only contract caterer to win two Springboard Awards – one for the Compass Academy and the other to Shane King, a Restaurant Associates chef, based at the Bank of England.

Held at the Intercontinental Park Lane hotel on Wednesday night (25 November), the Springboard Awards celebrate outstanding achievement in the hospitality, leisure and travel industry.

Shane King won the Springboard Ambassador Award for his work visiting school and colleges across the country, inspiring young people to enjoy and work with food and encouraging them to seek a fulfilling and worthwhile career in the Hospitality industry.

Commenting on Shane's achievement, Eileen Allen, head of the Springboard Ambassador programme said: "Shane is an absolutely brilliant Springboard Ambassador. His can-do attitude and unwavering commitment to helping young people to understand our industry, means he richly deserves the accolade 'Springboard Ambassador of the Year 2009'."

The Compass Academy, a two year programme which currently has 100 apprentices also received a Springboard Award for the 'Best Initiative to Attract People into Management', because of the excellent management training it offers.

Examples highlighted include: the combination of on and off the job training provided by the Compass Academy; the confidence and skills the apprentices have developed; and the benefits the scheme and the fresh new managers bring to Compass Group overall.

Robin Mills, HR director for Compass Group said: "We are thrilled to have received two Springboard Awards and being the only contract caterer to win such an award makes it extra special. We are extremely proud of Shane's achievements and delighted that the Compass Academy has received recognition for the opportunities and support it offers to young people in the industry."
