Chefs go on safari with Skills for Chefs in Sheffield

19th April 2011, 2:46pm

Delegates and exhibitors attending the 14th Skills for Chefs conference at Sheffield College in July will have the opportunity to experience how Sheffield is gaining status among the gastronomic world for the many new and exciting restaurants opening in the city.

David McKown, director of Skills for Chefs, commented: "Ever mindful of the need to ensure that the Skills for Chefs conference is always thought provoking and innovative, the normal Monday evening social event has been developed into a 'Restaurant Safari' this year where participants will be able to visit three of the best restaurants in the city and enjoy a three course meal with a twist – each course will be taken in a different venue."

The restaurants include The Wig and Pen by The Milestone, which has gained in popularity since featuring on Gordon Ramsay's best restaurant show, and Artisan, run by master chef Richard Smith who has earned some of the industry's highest accolades such as the New York Times Rising Star Award and the Northern Chef of the Year Award.

The third restaurant is Silversmiths, which specialises in the fresh produce of the region and has won awards such as A Taste of Yorkshire, Best Yorkshire Restaurant, Best British Restaurant and Best Local Produce Menu.

McKown added: "We hope our delegates agree that the evening will be a fascinating glimpse into the culinary world in Sheffield."

The business programme for the conference features well known chefs including Richard Corrigan, Lisa Allen (pictured), Nigel Haworth, Bryn Williams, Mark Sargeant, Steve Smith, Aiden Byrne, Rupert Rowley, Mick Burke, Tom Kitchin, Michael Wignall and John Jackaman.
