Celebrity chef and wine connoisseur head Wigan Food Festival

29th October 2009, 9:48am

TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson and wine expert Jilly Goolden will be heading up two special events as part of the ten day Wigan Food and Drink Festival.

The Festival, now in its third year, will take place from 4th – 14th March 2010. Highlights include the CAMRA Wigan Beer Festival, the Wigan Outdoor Market Kitchen Theatre, the Fine Food Trail and the Sweet Tooth Fair.

Wigan leisure and culture trust tourism manager and festival organiser, Keith Bergman said: "The event has really grown. What started off with a couple of demonstrations in a marquee a few years ago has gone on to be one of the top food and drink events in the regional calendar."

Jilly Goolden will be hosting a 'Wines of the World' tasting event at Haigh Hall on Friday 12th March and Antony Worrall Thompson will host 'Dinner with AWT' again at Haigh Hall on Wednesday 10th March.

Both celebrity chefs will also be in the Outdoor Market Kitchen Theatre providing free demonstrations during the week. Thompson will be giving a 'Love Your Leftovers' – Love Food Hate Waste cookery class on the afternoon of the 10th.

For the second year running national food supplier Hitchen Foods are the main festival sponsor.
