Carluccio's raises over £67,000 for charity

28th January 2008, 11:57am

Carluccio's Italian restaurant group has raised a huge sum of over £67,000 for the humanitarian charity Action Against Hunger.

This impressive balance was generated by the donation of 50p from each sale of Carluccio's most popular dish Peppe Giardiniera – Pugliese Penne with Courgette, Chilli and Deep Fried Spinach Balls with Parmesan and Garlic.

In this way, Carluccio's and its customers raised over £49,000 since the start of the charity's Restaurant Against Hunger campaign in October. The remaining £18,000 was raised by a charity auction held at the launch party for Carluccio's flagship caffe, deli and food shop in Covent Garden in September.

Handing over the cheque at Carluccio's flagship, Simon Kossoff, said: "It is very easy, when we have come to regard eating out as part of our daily lives, to forget that vast numbers of people do not experience adequate nutrition as a basic right. If our work with Action Against Hunger makes a real financial contribution and raises awareness, everyone at Carluccio's will be delighted."

In response, Paul Wilson commented: "We are extremely grateful to Carluccio's for their incredible support of Action Against Hunger. Carluccio's generous contribution will have a real and tangible effect on our relief work, helping us save the lives of malnourished children in places like Darfur and Bangladesh.

This money raised will provide enough survival kits to save the lives of nearly 2,500 malnourished children.
