Bunzl Catering Supplies' as part of its BeGreen policy aims to constantly source new ways to improve its performance. The company is a founder member of Save A Cup waste collection scheme, which works to close the loop on waste collection.
This collection scheme in the UK enables workplaces to send their compostable cups to industrial composting facilities. The scheme has the potential to divert thousands of cups away from landfill and can help businesses to reduce waste in the workplace.
Paul Willcocks, regional sales director, commented: "Our BeGreen policy works to set standards and measure operating improvements in order to reduce our environmental impact – from increasing recycling programmes to reducing fuel usage to sourcing green products.
"We provide environmentally friendly services and products to our customers to assist them in reducing their global footprint, whilst communicating what we've learned to both employees and customers. We are therefore delighted to be introducing the BioWare Fairtrade Promotional Hot Paper Cups as part of our latest and ongoing BeGreen initiative."
Around 20% of the UK's coffee and banana imports are now Fairtrade, with the label appearing on more than 4,500 product lines, according to recent figures published by the Fairtrade Foundation.
In addition, the UK Fairtrade market is now doubling every two years: sales of Fairtrade products leapt from £493m to more than £700m last year.
