Brits are a nation of secret pie eaters

26th October 2009, 11:17am

Britain is a nation of secret pie eaters with 53% of people eating more pies on a Friday than any other day of the week, according to a new survey.

Other figures revealed that more than one third of Brits have craved pie in the middle of the night and have even satisfied that craving by eating pie in bed, and pie isn't just for dinner. Some 20% of Brits say they've had pies for breakfast, 28% for lunch and 18% as midnight snacks.

Andrew Keeble, president and founder of the Pie Appreciation Society, said: "Hands down, my wife Debbie makes the best pies in the world, so it's no surprise our research found other men feel the same about their wives' pies too.

"But why two thirds of us keep our pie eating a secret I don't know. We're a big pie eating nation, it's part of our food heritage, which is why we've decided to launch our own Pie Appreciation Society and created Pie Day Friday to help celebrate our nation's love of the perfect pie!"

The research was commissioned by Debbie & Andrew Keeble, founders of the Pie Appreciation Society.

I am very suprised to read this. I am from New Zealand, and where ever you go, you are not too far away from being able to buy a delicious pie, but in the UK, it is more difficult and one item I do miss from home! So where are they buying these pies??

Have your say!
