Brewers Fayre celebrate new curry nights – by creating “the biggest naan bread on earth”

10th September 2010, 2:20pm

Honeytop Speciality Foods has celebrated the launch of Brewers Fayre's new curry nights by creating what it is calling the world's largest naan bread.

Weighing in at over 40kg, it took over five hours to make and eight bakers to carry the bread, which was created using "authentic" ingredients including yogurt, ghee and Kalonji seeds.

Measuring 10ft by 4ft, the creation has a total area of 40 sq ft, which the company say, is the equivalent of 167 "normal" sized naan breads.

Naan bread specialist Honeytop Speciality Foods say they are the only bakers in the country that have a specialist tandoori-style oven with the capacity to cook an authentic bread of "such magnitude" that it breaks to records.

Pauline Catterall, director of new business development at Honeytop said: "We were very excited to be challenged by Brewers Fayre to create the world's largest naan bread.

"It was baked to a traditional recipe using the same high-quality ingredients and unique baking method used to create all our naans.

"We're very pleased to be a record-making baker and wish Brewers Fayre every success with its curry nights."

The giant naan, which was enjoyed by the Brewers Fayre team, is believed to have smashed the previous record set by Asda and baked by Honeytop in 2004, which measured 7.7ft by 3.3ft.
