Jude Bishop, licensee at The Rising Sun, explained his reasons behind this concept: "FemAle Day is a great idea and we're looking forward to giving our delicious Brakspear Gold to as many female guests as possible.
"Cask ale is a wonderfully refreshing, natural product and, contrary to popular belief, it isn't fattening when drunk sensibly – an important message to communicate to women."
Tom Davies, commercial director of the pub group, added: "At a time when many pubs are suffering the effects of the credit crunch, an innovative idea like this is to be welcomed and we're happy to support it. Apparently, only 16% of women have ever tasted cask ale, but once they have tried it, over 40% become regular drinkers of it. So this should be good for beer sales in our pubs long after FemAle Day itself."
Brakspear Gold was chosen for the FemAle Day sampling as it is lighter and sweeter than traditional bitters. It is also a great match to many pub meals, especially fish or chicken.
