Boris Johnson opens Travelodge's 400th hotel in London Waterloo

6th July 2010, 10:23am

London Mayor Boris Johnson has officially opened the 400th Travelodge site - and has helped the company celebrate its 25th anniversary celebrations.

The 279-room hotel has been converted from a grade 11 listed building into a Travelodge after a £21.1million new build overhaul. Offering rooms from just £19 per night, the hotel has reported full occupancy for the first month and is marking its opening with some special offers for customers.

Offers available to customers include a complementary London sight-seeing tour with guide and also - as part of a trial by the company - the chance to hire a 'Go-Cycle' –described as the world's lightest electric bike – and enjoy an 'electrically-powered emission-free' commute around London.

The company is also marking the hotels 25th anniversary by offering 250,000 rooms for £25 or less at its UK hotels including the new Waterloo branch, with rooms available to book up until 31 October.

The company says the hotel opening has created 60 jobs with half of them filled via the London Employer Accord programme, an initiative that helps the log term unemployed back to work.

The new site brings the total number of Travelodge hotels in Greater London to 34, providing over 5,200 bedrooms. By the time of the Olympics, Travelodge plans to have opened a further 18 hotels in London in a bid to become the biggest hotel brand in London.

Guy Parsons, Travelodge's chief executive said: "Moving from being a roadside hotel chain to becoming one of the UK's largest, fastest growing and most highly recognized budget hotel brand; is an achievement that everyone involved with Travelodge should be proud of."
