Bomb scare at London's Savoy Hotel
12th September 2007, 4:39pm
The Savoy Hotel in London, part of Fairmont Hotels was evacuated last night after a suspicious package was found in a lift at 10.15pm.
400 guests plus staff were removed from the hotel as a security measure on the anniversary of September 11th.
The package contained razor blades, nuts and bolts and the emergency services determined that everyone should leave the premises.
After 20 minutes the emergency services allowed guests and staff back into the building after they had waited at the Strand Palace Hotel.
A spokesman told Eat Out: "The incident was handled quickly by the emergency services. Staff and guests worked with the authorities to follow the hotel's procedures and policies. At this stage no changes have been made to the Savoy's day-to-day activity but staff and guests remain vigilant.
Within 20 minutes the emergency services deemed the property safe and all guests were directed back into the hotel, and normal operations resumed.
The hotel's management team and staff did an excellent job in following emergency procedures with much positive feedback from guests who commented on how calmly the evacuation was carried out. The safety of our guests is always paramount importance and our first priority."
The Savoy will follow up with an inquiry and will continue to work with the police.
