Benito's Hat Mexican Kitchen invests in third site

25th February 2011, 7:10am

Benito's Hat Mexican Kitchen, which opened its first restaurant in 2008, is investing in a third site due to open in the middle of April 2011.

The new restaurant will be located on Great Castle Street near Oxford Circus.

Seating 40 diners in the main ground floor restaurant, with capacity for a further 20 diners downstairs, the third Benito's Hat will be the largest to date.

Like the original restaurant on Goodge Street and the second in Covent Garden's New Row, the new Benito's Hat will specialise in made-to-order authentic Mexican street food, with a menu including freshly-made burritos, tacos, salads and soups as well as seasonal dishes designed to showcase Mexico's regional cuisine.

Cocktails will also be key, with a focus on 100% Blue Agave Tequila based drinks such as Margaritas and Palomas.

Benito's Hat Mexican Kitchen was founded by 31-year-old Ben Fordham, formerly a tax lawyer in the City.

Commenting on the opening of the third site, Fordham said: "When we first opened with Goodge Street we really were pioneering the Mexican food movement in London; three years on and the scene is now very much more established with demand for great tasting, authentic Mexican food on the rise."

Chef Felipe Fuentes Cruz, from Puebla, Mexico, who opened the Goodge Street restaurant with Ben, will oversee the kitchens of all three sites.

Two things I miss about London having relocated to Melbourne last December, a pint of real ale and Benito's Hat Burritos. So please Ben, make that first international opening here in the foodie capital of the antipodes.
