Brakspear said it has invested heavily over the past year in both physical cellar conditions and the people running them.
Licensees and staff from 50 pubs – a third of the estate – have passed the BII's Award in Beer & Cellar Quality (ABCQ) and the company carried out major improvements in 15% of its pub cellars.
In addition to the 17 pubs now holding a Cask Marque Award, a further 15 are awaiting inspection.
Michael Sugg, licensee at The Butchers Arms in Sonning, said: "Passing the Cask Marque assessment and receiving the plaque is really satisfying, and it tells customers that we serve a consistently great pint. Going through the ABCQ course was worthwhile as, even though I've been in the business a few years, I came away with ideas on improving the way I run my cellar."
Tom Davies, Brakspear Pub Company commercial director, commented: "Our pubs benefit from offering one of the best-loved names in beer – Brakspear. We wanted to make sure that the many customers who go out of their way to drink our beer, enjoy it at its best, every time. Our investment in cellar upgrades and training is all part of an on-going programme of support for our tenants, helping them to run the finest pubs in their area."
