Bar group Drake & Morgan appoints general manager

19th October 2010, 9:47am

Bar group Drake & Morgan has appointed Matthew Buckingham as general manager of its London venue The Anthologist.

Buckingham joins the company with a 10-year career in hospitality under his belt. He has moved especially to London from Leeds to fill the position.

Most recently, he was general manager of The Restaurant Bar and Grill in Leeds, a flagship venue with a 250-cover restaurant, a bar with an additional 100-cover al fresco space, and a turnover of £5m.

Prior to that role he was general manager of Leeds' Oracle Bar and its members club. He has also held posts abroad, heading up teams in restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne.

Buckingham replaces Taskin Muzaffer who has been promoted to operations manager with responsibility across the group and for the launch of The Folly, Drake & Morgan's newest City venue on Gracechurch Street, opening on November 4th.

Buckingham commented on his new role: "I wanted my first London job to be at a stand-out venue and The Anthologist is just that. It presents a healthy set of challenges – not least its size – but the many different aspects to its operation are setting the tone for how the hospitality industry is developing. It's great to be part of that."

Jillian Maclean, Drake & Morgan's chief executive, added: "Matthew is ambitious and capable and will make a great addition to my management team. As we focus on opening The Folly, I'm confident in Matthew's ability to take command at The Anthologist."
