Ambitious new restaurant creates 20 jobs in the north east

20th August 2010, 9:29am

A trendy new restaurant and cafe bar is recruiting 20 staff from across the north east in readiness for opening in the Autumn.

Head chef, Ian Woodcock, and front of house manager, Jane Gallogly, are to open 'Seasons' – a contemporary and informal all-day eatery in the centre of Darlington in October.

The business partners, who already run a successful restaurant in Richmond, are looking to appoint a long list of staff, including an experienced general manager; the equivalent of 10 full-time front of house staff; a sous chef; a chef de partie; three commis chefs, and several kitchen assistants and cleaners.

A high volume of staff is required from the outset as the couple intend to serve food daily from 8.30am-9pm, with late night opening from Thursday to Sunday.

Jane and Ian, who already handle an average of 350 covers a day at their popular Seasons Restaurant in The Station, Richmond, are no strangers to catering for locals, alongside the business and tourism market.

Ian worked as a chef at Grosvenor House in London and has been in charge of catering at The Merchant Taylors' Hall, York, and Harewood House near Leeds.

Jane was catering manager at The Sage, Newcastle, and has run restaurants at both Castle Howard estate and York's National Railway Museum.

The pair said: "We aim to create Darlington's trendiest and friendliest eating and meeting venue that is inviting for all ages and tastes,' said Jane. 'We want everyone to use Seasons from business people coming in for light lunches and meetings through to shoppers and other locals such as mother and toddler groups. The building is large enough to carry this off and we have carefully sub-divided the space to create different areas. The corporate and social mix works extremely well at our existing Richmond restaurant in The Station and we hope to replicate this in a town centre setting."

Ian and Jane, who chose Darlington as the location for their second Seasons venture because they saw an obvious gap in the market, are encouraging applicants from across the region. People of all catering backgrounds will be considered and
apprenticeships may be available for the right candidates.
