Aldo Zilli to host National Fish & Chip Shop of the Year contest

29th October 2009, 9:59am

Celebrity chef Aldo Zilli has been revealed as the face of the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year competition.

Zilli is the latest TV star to lend his support to the competition and get behind the challenge.

Zilli will host the grand final of the competition on 21 January 2010 at the Riverbank Park Plaza Hotel in London.

He said: "The high standards of fish and chip shops in the UK rival some of the best restaurants in the country. Like top chefs, the best shop owners work hard to deliver outstanding quality, using only the finest ingredients and a responsible approach to sourcing sustainable species. I can't wait to get stuck in to a supper from the winner next year!"

Nikki Hawkins, foodservice and events manager at competition organisers Seafish, added: "The competition is now in its 22nd year and our celebrity supporters keep on getting better and better!

"We're really excited to have Aldo on board as our chef ambassador.  He understands the UK's love affair with fish and chips.  Almost 276 million fish and chip meals are sold each year proving beyond doubt that fish and chips remains the nation's favourite takeaway."

Organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood, the competition recognises the quality, value and choice offered by fish and chip shops across the UK and rewards the cream of the crop with the coveted title. Previous winners have seen their sales increase by 40% within months of winning the competition.

Got sold down the river by Ainsley Harriot after he hosted the competition twice..it's just money in the bank to them when their restaurants ar struggling. They serve drizzle this and emulsion that..pile it on plate like the leaning tower of pizza and charge some poor sucker the earth cos they have the money to waste...
