ALMR Operations Managers Awards open for entries
20th March 2009, 8:43am
The 2009 ALMR (Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers) Operations Managers Awards are now open and nominations are being sought.
Now in their 12th year, the awards seek out and celebrate those operations managers who have made their pubs and bars the best in the business.
Nominations can now be made online at the awards dedicated website – <http://www.almropsawards.org.uk/> or telephone the ALMR on 020 8579 2080.
The competition forms but one part of an annual cycle of activity to develop the skills of the people and to draw attention to their role. The 3-day Ashridge MasterClass is the key element of this process but the Academy event in the autumn and the awards celebration itself are important building blocks in this process – the Operations Managers Guild.
"The Operations Managers Awards are not simply a competition," commented Nick Bish of the ALMR. "They provide a real opportunity for personal development. Operations managers have the responsibility to deliver success at pub level and it is fundamental they are given the tools to do their job properly. That is why the MasterClass is such a crucial element of this process."
As before, the accolade of Operations Manager 2009 will be awarded to two individual winners: Area Manager (AM) for managed houses and Business Development Manager (BDM) for tenanted and leased business. Nominations are anticipated from retail and pub companies, regional brewers and, of course, from the operations managers themselves, keen to pit their skills against the entry paper and the judging process.
The entry paper is a challenge in itself. "It's a searching and thought-provoking test, which requires applicants to demonstrate their understanding of the industry and their contribution to the success of their company," commented Bish. "It will appeal to people with a winning attitude, who wish to gain professional recognition and first class development alongside industry peers."
Finalists continue the competition with a working day observed and judged by a senior industry executive and then they attend the three-day MasterClass, to be held this year at Billesley Manor, Alcester. The MasterClass challenges and extends finalists skill base, providing them with top-level business theory from a senior lecture team, which is reinforced by a panel of industry leaders who devote their time to add value to the awards.
On the fourth day, finalists face a grilling from a panel of judges to decide who will be crowned ALMR Operations Managers 2009.
The winners will be announced at the ALMR Autumn event on 24 September 2009.
