A round-up of this week's facts

A study has suggested that the Kellogg's Special K 'two bowls of cereal a day' challenge could be on the right track.

Findings show that people who eat cereal for two out of their three meals a day could lose more than 4lbs in six weeks.

Those who combined various cereals lost more weight with the people sticking to one brand losing just 1.3lb.

TNS' study into UK workers' priorities for 2009 reveals that employees are more bothered about reducing their stress levels at work and improving their work-life balance than hanging on to their jobs.

Only 25% cite 'avoiding redundancy' as one of their priorities for 2009, compared to 29% focusing on reducing stress.

The study also shows that only 15% expect a cut in salary this year.

A nationwide survey commissioned by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) found that only half of people correctly identified the "use by date" as the best measure of safety.

The survey also found that just less than half (47%) of people questioned said they would never eat cooked meat beyond its use by date, which suggests that a large proportion of consumers are willing to take risks with the safety of their food by eating goods beyond the use by date.

The recession did little to dampen romantic spirits over the weekend as figures show that online restaurant bookings for Valentine's Day were up 300% on last year, as people continue to dine out.

Statistics captured by Livebookings – whose network includes more than 17,000 restaurants and 500 booking partners – showed that in just 12 months online bookings have rocketed.

Aside from the 14th February, January was the month of promotions, with restaurateurs becoming more aware that they had to work harder to keep their customers coming.
