10 Crown Street

A Jewel in the Crown Portfolio

27th September 2007, 4:22pm

Darlington based Crown Leisure has kicked off its portfolio with the trendy design and renovation of 10 Crown Street by Fluid Design Solutions.

Giving the locals a welcome break from the more traditional pub venues that Darlington offers, 10 Crown Street has been through a dramatic transformation from a disused warehouse into the chic hotspot it is now.

With modern leather booths and benches, chrome features and distinctive photographs, it injects style into the town's nightlife.

John Wilson, who has 13 years experience of the industry with sister company Hogan's Leisure, is also a Director of Crown Leisure. He said: "We considered plans from a number of architects but were looking for something different for this venture. As we own and manage several pubs in the town already, we wanted something striking that wouldn't place 10 Crown Street in competition with the venues we already have.

"Fluid came to us with a fresh, unique design and it was the obvious choice for the venue we had in mind. They made excellent use of the space and really understood the brief to create something practical and stylish."

The venue can now hold over 500 people and provides a modern twist on a traditional theme by combining brickwork and wooden floors with clean lines and distinctive lighting schemes.

John continues: "The lighting was a big part of the project and it was important that we got it right. We ensured that the general décor of bar was neutral, allowing it to be completely transformed by the lighting scheme.

Panels in the ceiling interchange colours to set different moods and lighting around the dance floor and behind the bar really sets off the rest of the design.  We were very happy with the final effect and it's certainly one of my favourite parts of the project!"

The design team at Fluid has both the operational experience and design flair to deliver innovative, exciting and practical solutions to your commercial space.
