Almost four in ten (38%) consumers use a discount voucher twice a week or more and, on average, each UK adult hands over at least three discount vouchers in a two month period. Londoners are the biggest voucher users redeeming one every fortnight in the capital.
These vouchers offer an average monthly saving of £56.61 per person - that's the equivalent of free cable TV and broadband for your home or having your mobile phone bill paid.
Across the country, Londoners are the savviest when it comes to using discount codes and vouchers, they save on average £71 per month. Cardiff residents came second, racking up an extra £65 of savings every month followed closely by Edinburgh folk who save £60.
Sian Harrison, moneysupermarket.com's voucher expert said: "Our research shows that the vouchers are becoming an expected and valued part of our shopping routine. A few years ago it would have been unheard of for people to pay for Christmas presents using vouchers - now almost half of us won't be shopping without them.
"It's a clear reaction to living in more cash-strapped times when retailers and restaurants are desperate for us to spend with them and must offer discounts in order to compete."
