Joining the Association gives hoteliers the ideal staring point for any hotel or guesthouse setting or extending green targets.
Whether people are looking to save water, waste, energy or food miles, the Association provides advice and positive encouragement to hotels, large or small.
Ciaran Fahy, FIH, general manager at The Cavendish London, which won 2007's Considerate Hotel of the Year, explains how he has benefited from joining the Association two years ago: "This provided us with the information and key contacts to enable the management to develop a focussed action plan to address energy and water consumption, recycling and sustainable food."
Highlights of joining the Association includes an open to all blog to share ideas, a quarterly newsletter, advice and updates on real cost savings from environmental initiatives, and updated information on statutory requirements regarding the environment and hotels.
Non-members can also benefit by the scheme. The annual awards are open to all establishments and offer the chance to gain recognition and publicity for making green changes.
The Green Source Purchasing Guide is also available free of charge, advising hoteliers how to select products and services which will help to reduce their impact on the environment.
