Music could boost hotel profits

22nd June 2009, 12:14pm

Almost a quarter of guests are prepared to pay 5% more on food and drink in hotel restaurants and bars where music is being played, according to new research commissioned by MusicWorks.

Other figures found that almost a half of guests were more likely to consume more food and drink in a hotel's restaurant or bar that played music, and 40% said that they would use a hotel for business meetings if music was being played.

A MusicWorks spokesperson said: "The vast majority of consumers and employees like hearing music because it helps shift their emotional state to take best advantage of the respective environment.

"Indeed, businesses or organisations that embrace music have access to a source of competitive advantage, which could drive up profits. The fact that more than a third of those taking part in the study were willing to pay 5% or more in terms of custom is testament to this."

MusicWorls is a business tool aimed at informing businesses of the benefits of playing music.
