Livebookings experience online surge

Online restaurant bookings have rocketed in the past 12 months, according to online restaurant reservations network Livebookings.

In fact, this year there's a 300% increase in bookings for Valentine's night itself, in comparison to 14 February 2008 - and the numbers are continuing to flood in.

Meanwhile, January was the month of promotions, with restaurateurs fully aware that they had to work harder to keep their customers coming – using the 2-4-1 deals and discounts as a popular marketing tool.

Livebookings' chief operating officer, David Norris, reassures that for the Valentine's Day dinner it's not necessarily about cheap and cheerful. He said: "Bookings are coming through thick and fast. Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday this year so restaurateurs are experiencing a boost to bookings throughout the weekend, with increased activity on Friday night, Saturday lunch and Sunday too. 

"The good news is that the increase is not just in response to promotions, but also for a la carte menus. This is a great sign that shows that restaurants have an opportunity to redeem some of the poor trade seen towards the end of 2008."
